2nd Thursday (Oct. 10 at 3:15 p.m.): Junior Book Club. It’s not too late to join this book club for kids ages 9 to 13. This month we are discussing Shiloh, by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. Join us for a fun activity and refreshments, and pick up next month’s read: Fight for Life, by Laurie Halse Anderson (Vet Volunteers #1.)
3rd Thursday (Oct. 17 at 3:00 p.m.): It’s all about pumpkins at our regular 3rd Thursday Activity. Come for Pumpkin Seeds and Jack-o-Lantern Tales and enjoy stories, songs, and crafts that revolve around the big orange gourd. For children of all ages.
5th Thursday (Oct. 31 at 3:00 p.m.): The library gets spooky for Halloween! Get an afternoon start on trick-or-treating by coming to this all-ages activity with stories, games, crafts, and refreshments for Halloween. Be sure to wear your costume!

John R. Beeson, 67, of Lake Villa passed away on Wednesday, November 13th after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born to his late parents, Theron and Dorothy Beeson, on January 28, 1946 in Crawfordsville, Indiana. As an infant he moved to Paris, Illinois where his father owned the Edgar County Seed Company. John attended Eastern Illinois University, where he founded Eta Mu chapter of Sigma Chi fraternity. He remained an active alumnus of Sigma Chi throughout his life and was awarded the Order of Constantine for his fraternal work. After receiving his juris doctorate from St. Louis University he became an officer in the United States Army’s Judge Advocate General corps. During his 21 year career he received an LLM in military law and was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. His specialized work in counterterrorism and training military police were foundational for battling many of the challenges our nation faces today. During his college years John met his partner in life, Patricia Vanderhoof, and they were married in 1970. They were blessed with two children, Adam and Katherine. Upon his retirement from the US Army in 1991, John and his family made Mundelein, IL their long term home. While there he was active coaching and officiating youth sports, participating in local government, working with the local VFW and American Legion, volunteering for a variety of Republican candidates and perpetuating his family’s mantra of giving back to the community. John is survived by his wife Patricia Beeson, children Adam (Katrina) Beeson, Katherine Owen and grandchildren Emily, Madelyn, Lilah and Everett.
