Mark Twain and Halley’s comet.

One of my very favorite authors is Mark Twain. He was born Samuel Langhorne Clemens on November 30th, 1835. Very shortly before he was born Halley’s comet was its absolute closest to the earth. Mark Twain became one of America’s greatest authors who wrote which is greatly regarded as the “all-American” novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. He was also America’s foremost humorist. One of my favorite quotes of his was “the reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated”. Another quote that was attributed to him was “the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco”.
Getting back to the Mark Twain, Halley’s comet connection here is another famous quote:
“I came in with Halley’s Comet in 1835. It is coming again next year (1910), and I expect to go out with it. It will be the greatest disappointment of my life if I don’t go out with Halley’s Comet. The Almighty has said, no doubt: “Now here are these two unaccountable freaks; they came in together, they must go out together.”
– Mark Twain, a Biography
Reportedly he died the day after it passed April 21, 1910. How cool {and kinda spooky] is that?
