The game is afoot!

Very few people, real or fiction have captured the imagination of popular culture like Sherlock Holmes.

It’s the birthday of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of master sleuth Sherlock Holmes.

Doyle was born in Scotland and studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, where he met Dr. Joseph Bell, a teacher with extraordinary deductive reasoning power. Bell partly inspired Doyle’s character Sherlock Holmes years later.~History.com

I know that Sherlock Holmes has gone through many incarnations. Just within the past few years Robert Downey Jr. has put a spin on Sherlock I’m sure Sir Arthur would be hard pressed to recognize. Still it is vastly entertaining and the master sleuth, as ever, has Doctor Watson by his side. If you only know about the cinema version of Sherlock, be it Basil Rathbone, Jeremy Brett or Robert Downey Jr. you should really acquaint yourself with the written Sherlock. It all began with A Study in Scarlet. Where can you find it? The answer is elementary…at your local Library of course.

I hope that you are successful in your campaign to adding Young Sherlock Holmes to the video collection. My favorite Sherlock Holmes story is The Adventure of the Speckled Band.

I would recommend the Sherlock Holmes pastiche ‘The House of Silk’ by Anthony Horowitz.
Horowitz captures the essence of the canon nicely.
    Cheers!
