Elementary, Watson!

Mysteries have always been one of my favorite genres to read and watch.  I used to read a boatload of mystery novels, but had fallen out of the habit with all of the non-fiction reading I’ve been inhaling lately. Just recently I’ve picked up the habit again, finding a few new authors to settle into. But one of my all time favorites is the Sherlock Holmes mysteries by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.  The library has several copies of the novels and quite a few PBS shows on DVD starring Jeremy Brett as Sherlock (I’ve always thought he made the best Holmes). Last year the BBC in Britain launched a new Sherlock Holmes series, still set in London, but in modern times with all of our tech innovations like cell phones and the internet. I’m usually such a traditionalist with things like this, the Victorian atmosphere and all, but I loved the new series and can hardly wait for season 2 to come out! They are in the process of starting to shoot it now.
Here’s the trailer from the first season so you can see why I think it’s so brilliant:
