Zip Books: Your Library Delivered!

Home-delivery Zip Books Program Returns to Orland Library

We are excited to announce that the Zip Books program has resumed and now includes eBooks.  The Orland Library was awarded over $6,000 in funding from the California State Library to enable our library card holders to get books and audiobooks delivered straight to their home via Amazon.

Stop by the Orland Library or any of the Glenn County branches in Bayliss, Elk Creek or Hamilton City, to place your request and your items (up to 3) will be shipped at no cost to you from Amazon.  Most items will be received within one week from Amazon or one of their vendors. Return them within six weeks and you can request more.  When you are done with your Zip Books we will add them to the collection for others to enjoy. Not only do you get a new book delivered to your door, but you directly contribute to building a library collection that reflects the interests of our community.

Zip Books Guidelines:

  • Hardcovers, Large Print Editions, and CD Audiobooks
  • Books that are not currently in the Orland Library Catalog. We cannot order Textbooks, Self-Published Books, Study Guides, Test Preparation, or Curriculum Materials.
  • Books in the catalog but not in the desired format (e.g., Large Print, Audiobooks)
  • Available on Amazon for less than $50
  • Library Card holders can request a Zip book via phone or at the library front desk.
  • Returning ZIP Books: Since our ZIP Books do not have any Library markings or tags, it is important you hand the item to a staff member when you return it to the Library. If you cannot return the item during business hours, please place a secure note or receipt designating it as a ZIP Book and drop it in the book drop outside the Library. Unidentified Zip Books returned in a drop box may result in replacement fees charged to your account.
  • Unreturned items will be considered lost and replacement fees will be charged to your account.

Patrons can also now submit title requests for digital eBooks and audio in the Palace Project app, a state-wide “e-books for all” collection. Once a requested title is added to the statewide collection, patrons receive notification and can check it out immediately.

eBooks for All Joins Zip Books: Free Access with Expanded Capabilities
We’re excited to share that eBooks for All is now supported under the Zip Books initiative. This transition enables libraries on the Palace platform to continue offering both the statewide digital collection and their local eBook offerings, all at no local cost.

New Features for Patrons and Libraries: Patron Request Portal: Thanks to Califa, patrons can now submit title requests in both English and Spanish via an online form. Once a requested title is added to the statewide collection, patrons receive notification and can check it out immediately. Seamless Access Across Platforms: Requested titles will appear both in California’s Bookshelf and within each library’s local instance of Palace, offering consistent and comprehensive access.

Califa will be making weekly purchases of requests and will notify the requester by email when the title is available for download. The rules for request are on the forms below:
