Armchair Traveller

There are so many places that I want to visit in this world, and unfortunately, I will probably never have enough time or money to see all I would like to see. Kind of like there are so many books to be read and I will never have enough time to get through even a fraction of all I wish to read!
That is why I am an inveterate armchair traveller. I can find books that will take me where I want to go and let me live vicariously through the authors adventures, whether they are fiction or (more often that not) non-fiction.Here at the library we have books that will take you anywhere you want to go.  Call numbers 910-919 are where you can find travel books that you can peruse at your leisure and let you mind wander to far off places or even a little closer to home. Some of my favorites are: “One Year Off” about a family that takes a year off to travel the globe with their three young children. “The Pillars of Hercules”  by Paul Theroux, about travelling around the Mediterranean by foot, train, bus and cruise ship. Theroux has written many other wonderful books that we also carry here at the library. And the always entertaining Bill Bryson has written  two of my favorites: “Neither Here Nor There” about his trip backpacking through Europe, and “The Lost Continent: Travels in Small Town America”.  So if you can’t physically travel to where you want to go, aren’t you glad you can get there anyway with books from your library?
Lisa – who hopes to travel to Italy one of these days.
