Jim Schmidt will be telling us about “Growing up in Orland”
In February 1973 Jim was asked by his friend Greg McCombs, at that time the editor of the Orland Unit-Register, to write a weekly feature column for the newspaper. Jim named the column “Tuning Up.” He wrote 104 features, telling stories mostly about growing up in Orland and the valley.
Upon his return to the north state Jim began playing piano with Chico musicians. He became involved in the Chico music scene in 1975 and continues playing today.
Since 1995 Jim has been a radio disc jockey, hosting the Facets of Jazz show on KZFR 90.1 FM from 9:00-11:30 a.m. on the second Tuesday of the month.
