One World, Many Stories

Do you wish you could travel around the world?  You can, this summer, at the library!
The 2011 theme for the Summer Library Program is “One World, Many Stories.” Everything we do for the summer reading club will have an “around the world” theme.
You may not think that librarians start getting ready for the summer so far in advance, but we do. We started thinking about it last November, when the theme was introduced at the California Library Association convention.
Yesterday I went to a workshop about the Summer Library Program. Ten librarians gave ten presentations about  ten different countries. I presented stories, songs, activities, and crafts from Russia, and other countries on display were China, Japan, France, Mexico, Brazil, India, Pakistan, the British Isles, and Australia. All of these ideas will go into our storytimes and activities this summer.  I can’t wait!
Plan now to join us on an “around the world” adventure.  See you at the library!
