Do You Miss the Card Catalog?

Revisit the days when card catalogs ruled the library in this clever video from Yale University.
I recently took my granddaughters on a visit to the library at UC Berkeley. Gone are the vast banks of card catalog drawers, replaced by study tables. The desk where you handed in a card and waited for a page to bring your book is gone. The old entrance to the stacks is now just a door to nowhere. During the 1990’s Cal built new underground stacks—lighter, brighter, and seismically safe, with compact moving bookshelves to hold all the books. And of course, the catalog is on computer.
Time marches on, but sometimes it’s nice to take a look backwards.
