Horse of a different color.

Well it’s almost time for the The Belmont stakes. I really don’t watch horse racing very much, but it is pretty exciting that someone has a shot at the Triple Crown. That is when a hose wins the three most prestigious  horse races in America. The Preakness, The Belmont Stakes and the Kentucky Derby. This year the horse I”ll Have Another is in contention for the title. The last horse to win the Triple Crown was Affirmed in 1978. The year before that was Seattle Slew the only back to back Triple Crown winners ever. This whole race atmosphere made me think of all the great horse racing books and movies I have seen. There is Secretariat, which was a great movie based on the even better book by Laura Hillenbrand. I love National Velvet, Seabiscuit.and Hidalgo There are so many great horse stories. Another favorite is The Black Stalllion by Walter Farley. Then there is the perennial classic Black Beauty by Anna Sewell. All of these wonderful stories are available here at the Orland Freel Library. If you have never read or seen these classics, come on by and pick one up.

Estel – Don’t forget the author Dick Francis. He rode for England’s Queen Mother. I think from 1953 – 1957. You may consider promoting this author during the Queen’s Jubilee.
