Kicked off with seed money from the Friends of the Orland Free Library and brought to fruition with the help of 16 local individuals, families, and community groups who sponsored individual podiums, the Library Park Story Walk ribbon cutting was held in December of 2025.
The Library Park Story Walk is an activity that encourages literacy, physical activity, and enjoyment of our beautiful park!
The pages of a children’s picture book are separated and placed in 16 sign panels and displayed along an outdoor path, allowing families and caregivers to read the story together as they walk through the Library Park at 333 Mill St. in Orland.

In March 2026 the Story Walk featured a story and information about the Orland men who were killed in the Vietnam War and where to locate their names on “The Wall That Heals” to coincide with the arrival of the replica Vietnam Veterans Memorial Replica and Mobile Education Center.
Community members were able to read about how the artist conceived and created the memorial and learn the local history of those who were lost before or after they visited the memorial.
