Yesterday in observance of “President’s Day” the Library was closed. Many people also had the day off. Children had no school. When I was a kid we had two holidays, one was George Washington’s Birthday on February 22nd. The other was Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday on February 12th. Now they just lump them together and make “President’s Day”. These two men are often regarded as our most important Presidents. George Washington is known as the Father of our country, and Abraham Lincoln kept the Union together. If not for the actions taken by that great man we may not yet be “The United States of America”. It brought to mind the many things these great men did for out country. It also made me think of who might be my “favorite’ President. I guess sentimentally it would be John F. Kennedy. He was President when I was born. He was cut down in the prime of life, but in His short time in the White House he was met with many challenges. The Cuban Missile Crisis, which brought us to the brink of war. He also made the space program a priority. He was our only Catholic President and our only President to be awarded a Purple Heart. Another President which I would have to say is a favorite is Bill Clinton. Despite the black marks against Him. He was a vital and dedicated President. Our country was never stronger than when Bill Clinton was the leader of our nation [in my own opinion]. Also, I heard Him speak at Beale Air Force base and I got to shake His hand. He is certainly a dynamic speaker and has loads of charisma. I would like to know who your favorite President may be.
