Orland Library Music Garden Grand Opening!
The Orland Free Library is excited to announce the installation of a Music Garden- a vibrant new space that will bring music, creativity, learning, and community to Library Park thanks to donations from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, First 5 Glenn County, Orland Rotary Club, Orland Police Officers Association, and the Orland Women’s Improvement Club!
The Music Garden will feature five outdoor musical instruments, beautifully designed in the shapes of flowers and a bee. These colorful, interactive instruments will transform a previously bare area of the park into a welcoming and inspiring musical learning and play space for people of all ages. More than just a collection of instruments, the Music Garden will invite everyone to explore the joy of making music. Visitors will have opportunities to experiment with sound, collaborate, or simply play. No musical experience is necessary-just curiosity and a willingness to explore.
Jody Halsey Meza, Library Director, stated that she hopes that the Music Garden will serve as “a place where people can connect across generations and cultures. Children, families, teens, adults, and older community members can come together to share in the experience of making music in our beautiful park. Music is universal. It doesn’t matter what language you read or speak and you can be of any age or physical ability to enjoy this space.” This project was designed to encourage intergenerational and multicultural engagement, foster new connections, strengthen community, and create opportunities for people to learn from and inspire one another.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on October 2nd, “World Music Day”, in conjunction with children’s activities and crafts provided by the library and community partners including First 5 Glenn County, the Glenn County Office of Education, and the Honeybee Discovery Center. Activities will also be offered at 3:00 p.m. for children and families.
