Read Across America with Dr. Seuss

Every year in March kids across the nation celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday with Read Across America events, sponsored by the National Education Association. Dr. Seuss’s birthday is March 2nd. Since the good doctor’s birthday falls this year on a Saturday, schools are celebrating and promoting reading on Friday March 1st. Or all week long if the kids are lucky.RAA Cat n Hat Logo_2010_medium
Dr. Seuss did more than any other writer to get kids started reading. Millions of his books are on library shelves and in home bookcases and under kids’ beds. He is one of America’s great authors.
What could be more fun than spending some time reading books by Dr. Seuss? Mill Street School will be having guest readers in the classrooms, and I am looking forward to sharing some of my favorite stories, like Too Many Daves and Gertrude McFuzz. Then later this month the library’s Third Thursday Activity will be a Dr. Seuss Celebration. Read all month long with Dr. Seuss!
