Chromebooks & Wifi Hotspots Available to Borrow

Thanks to a grant from the California State Library the Orland, Willows, Bayliss, & Elk Creek Libraries have Chromebooks (laptop computers) and WiFi Hotspots (T-Mobile internet access point) available for public checkout. The HotSpots provide a link to the Internet from any place they are plugged in although they are not guaranteed to work in some remote areas of the county. Chromebooks are laptops that can connect to the internet through any accessible WiFi network—including one from a library Hotspot.

This is part of the Library’s effort to bridge the digital divide for those without personal computers or Internet and we hope will be beneficial for our community members in a variety of ways, including providing access for online homework help, job applications, workforce development and training, and research.

Checkout of the devices requires a library card and due dates may vary from 1-4 weeks depending upon from which library they are borrowed. Library cards are free and easy to sign up for- all you need is identification and a piece of mail to prove current address.  Devices will be subject to replacement or damages fees if they are not returned in good condition or by the due date.

Please call your local library for more information or if you have any questions.
